Dear PCLT friends,

Believe it or not, Ash Wednesday is one week from today.  Yes, Lent starts on February 14th this year – Valentine’s Day.  Which may actually be more appropriate than you think.  In our gospel passage for Ash Wednesday, Jesus tells us, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”  We begin Lent by talking about our hearts and God’s love.

We are told that our hearts and our treasures cannot be separated. During Lent, we allow the divine who dwells deep in our hearts to have her way with us – so that we know where this treasure lies.  Over the 40 days of Lent, we are invited to open ourselves to divine transformation – learning to love and learning what to love; learning what to hold on to and what to let go of… so our hearts may grow together with Christ.

The 40 days of Lent are important to us as followers of the Way of Jesus and to us as the Body of Christ.  May we observe a holy Lent.  May open our hearts to the Love God offers us.  And here are a few ways to do just that:

  • Ash Wednesday Supper and ServiceWednesday, February 14th.  At 6:15 p.m., we will serve a simple (but romantic)soup and bread supper.  At 7:00 p.m., there will be a short worship service that includes the imposition of ashes.
  • Weekly Wednesday Service of Lectio Divina –  Join us for a 30-minute time devoted to prayer and listening for God’s Word. Lent is the perfect time to reignite your prayer life.  Lectio Divina, which means divine reading, is a slow, contemplative way of praying the scriptures that enables the Word of God to become a means of deepening our relationships with God, others, and the world around us.
          7:00 p.m. Wednesdays, February 21, 28 and March 7, 21.
Please note we will not meet March 14.

In Christ’s Love,
Pastor Laura
